|
Dear Child,
I am the unknown soldier that you wrote to. I got your letter an im writing back to you so i can tell you about me and the war.
I am a 16 yr old boy, and i did not choose to join the war i was forced to join and leave my newborn child Max and my girlfriend Robin behind. I cried at the thought of leaving them for 3 weeks. Right when i got to training i got yelled at and i had to get into uniform right away I was fed mush in a tin can it was cold and, so i dont have as much energy as i used to. I almost died training because of an accidental shot across the field.
We finally went into battle with Germany, i was in the trenches covered in blood, sweat, and mud, i was terrified. I was sitting next to two of my closest friends that i made when training. I turned away from them for a split second and i hear a loud bang go past my ear and i hear someone fall to the ground i turn to see my friend on the ground with blood on his chest. I took him into my arms and started shaking him yelling and crying " Why wasn't it me! ", " Why didn't you take me! ". I took my gun and pointed it at the enemy, and pulled the trigger and got the enemy right in the head, it felt good to shoot someone, it felt good to kill someone.
After battle half of the people were dead and so was i. I hope i fought for a good future for you and our country, i can still remember playing with toy soldiers and pretended to be in the war, and now i regret everything. Now i lie in Flander's Fields, I hope i did good to our country and i hope i died for a good cause, and i hope there was no more wars after WW1 because WW1 was meant to end all wars.
Sincerely,
Unknown Soldier
